Communication is one of the most vital skills children ever learn, helping them with everything from making new friends to reading and writing.
At Talking Tots, we know children learn best through play, so our sessions focus on fun, exciting activities that gently boost children's natural language development through exclusive Talking Tots activities, games, rhymes and songs.
Designed By Experts
The Talking Tots programme has been developed by Lisa Houghton and Tracey Park, two highly-experienced paediatric speech and language therapists.
Each Talking Tots session is carefully designed to build on children's natural development while helping to develop vital language, communication and social skills.
We will demonstrate how your nursery will be meeting many aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework through Talking Tots sessions.
Talking Tots and The Early Learning Goals
A Unique Programme
The Prime Areas:
Communication and language
Listening and attention:
All Talking Tots activities encourage children to listen attentively in a range of situations.
Understanding:
Throughout the sessions, children follow instructions involving good listening and attention. Understanding is supported through visual cues.
Speaking:
Children who have developed good turn-taking skills, attention & listening, vocabulary & semantic knowledge and narrative storytelling & sequencing skills have a greater chance of developing good expressive language
Personal, social and emotional development
Self-confidence and self-awareness:
Talking Tots sessions are very carefully structured and children are therefore confident to try new activities.
Managing feelings and behaviour:
Throughout our sessions the children work as part of a group and co-operate within that group.
Making relationships:
The sessions promote taking turns with others, encouraging children to show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings, and form positive relationships with adults.
Physical development
Moving and handling:
Throughout the sessions, children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle learning cards effectively, developing fine motor skills.
The Specific Areas:
Literacy
Reading:
Phonological awareness is an important determiner of success in learning to read and spell. Talking Tots sessions help children to become familiar with important key phonological awareness areas.
Writing:
Children can use their phonological awareness skills learnt in Talking Tots sessions, in conjunction with their
naturally developing skills to write words, which match their spoken sounds.
This will allow children to write simple words, some of which spelt correctly and others which are phonetically plausible.
Expressive Arts & Design
Being imaginative:
Talking Tots sessions encourage children to move in a variety of ways, to sing songs and to develop skills by saying traditional rhymes and accompanying actions.
The Classes:
Each 30-minute Talking Tots nursery session is suitable for up to eight children, and combines exclusive Talking Tots learning activities, games, rhymes and songs. Classes incorporate brightly coloured picture cards, parachute play and exclusive, individual props and accessories to ensure children are fully engaged in the activities.
SPRINTERS FOR 2+
Between the ages of two and three, toddlers learn hundreds of new words, gestures and sounds. But even the chattiest toddler has a lot to learn about communication.
In Sprinters, children take part in carefully designed games and exclusive activities that promote core communication skills such as listening and taking turns.
Throughout the year, children will develop their semantic skills, the ability to sequence stories & auditory memory.
Each friendly and supportive session incorporates individual props and games, along with brightly coloured pictures, scarves and puppets that encourage children to play with sounds and words.
These skills are the very first building blocks of literacy.
SPARKLERS FOR 3+
Sparklers is a fun-packed class designed especially with pre-schoolers in mind.
Research shows that children learn to read only once they have a good understanding of the sounds and syllables that are used in language.
Talking Tots uses exclusive games and learning activities to help children become confident with sounds, words, rhyme and rhythm - vital pre-literacy skills that will help children when it's time to learn to read and write.
The sessions also combine exciting group and individual activities to help boost the concentration and social skills that children will need in the classroom.
