Your baby is born to be sociable but needs your help to develop their social skills.
Your baby could hear your voice when he was in the womb, which is why he turns to look at you now, as he recognises and feels comforted by your voice.
Very early on your baby is able to distinguish sounds, such as being able to tell a difference between the voice of Mummy & Daddy!
Talking, cooing, smiling, singing and responding to your baby’s sounds, cries and facial expressions will help to develop their brain.
The crucial time to help your child learn to talk and communicate is up to the age of three. Babies are born with brains that have a huge capacity for learning.
By the time your baby is around 6 – 8 weeks old he will be cooing and making new noises and at around 12 weeks, he will be focusing on you and your face when you talk to him.
By about 6 months … communicative turn taking has begun!
Your baby will be babbling and gurgling to you in response to your voice, words, sounds and facial expressions.
He will also begin to imitate your mouth movements and facial expressions.
These are his first attempts at having a conversation with you!
Baby Talk* 4m+ ... babbling babies is our delightful and informative 6 week course for babies from 4 months to around 12 months and is a wonderful opportunity for you to engage with your baby at this special time. Baby Talk classes introduce you to the importance of early communication skills and how to develop them.
We hope you'll love it so much that you will join the full Talking Tots programme! We help parents to play with their babies in a way that develops early skills such as eye contact, listening skills, turn taking and sound awareness.
We encourage parents to support their babies in heuristic/ sensory play through child led discovery.
Baby Talk classes have a relaxed feel and are a great place for parents to meet and make new friends.
